It’s true that there are a lot of great cosmetics companies from the US, UK and other places around the world, but what some of us Canadian beauty girls tend to forget, are the amazing beauty brands based out of our own backyards. In order to showcase some of the best beauty products Canada has to offer, I will be doing a bi-weekly post featuring some of Canada’s biggest (and smallest) beauty brands. First up, Cheeky Monkey Cosmetics.
The Brand: Cheeky Monkey Cosmetics, the brain child of Andrea Panh (a mother of three and entrepreneur) is a nail polish company that embodies Andrea’s “refreshing joie de vivre, a sense of humour that will leave you with tears of laughter and a tendency to swear like a trucker”. Bored with what was already out on the market, Andrea wanted to start a polish company that embraced every mother’s need to escape from reality and bring out their ‘sexy side’.
The Clientele: As the Cheeky Monkey website states, “Our clientele and friends at Cheeky Monkey
Cosmetics is the responsible woman who takes charge of her life. She can do just about anything. She aspires to be the best “her” she can be. Like a woman wearing beautiful lingerie for herself – no one knows she has it on, but she feels more beautiful and has
an air about her – no one knows why, but she does. Cheeky Monkey Cosmetics wants you to show your true colours.”
The Product: All of Cheeky Monkey’s nail polishes, priced at $15 a bottle CND, are non-toxic and 3 free meaning they don’t contain formaldehyde, toluene or DBP. All of Cheeky Monkey’s products are cruelty free and the company does not test on animals. All of the polishes apply opaquely in two coats, and usually wear somewhere between 7 and 10 days.
The Colours: As the name states, this nail polish company is a ‘little cheeky’. Wanting to embrace ‘the sexy side’ of every woman, Cheeky Monkey has given their polishes some pretty risqué names such as ‘One Nite Stand’, ‘Brazen Hussy’ and ‘Back Alley Sally’.
My Stash: Of course as Killer Kurves’ resident product junky, it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t own some of the products from the companies I write about. Currently, I am the owner of five very different Cheeky Monkey polishes.
Booty Call – A deep metallic plum packed with iridescent pink shimmer, Booty Call is the perfect vampy colour for winter.
Hot Damn – A gorgeous metallic green-toned gold, ‘Hot Damn’ is a luxyrious polish, perfect for a
special night out on the town.
Whatever – Whatever is a dusty brick-red polish that works as both a neutral and a hint of colour for fall.
Pearl Necklace – A gorgeous metallic white-pearl, Pearl Necklace gives the nails a super feminine look.
Get Wet – Get Wet is the perfect teal blue and my favourite colour from the Cheeky Monkey
collection. While this colour looks great in the summer, it is the kind of colour that works all year long.
Left to Right: Get Wet, Pearl Necklace, Booty Call, Hot Damn and Whatever
The Website: Even if you aren’t a fan of the polish, the Cheeky Monkey website www.cheekymonkeycosmetics.com is worth a peek. Not only does it contain tips such as ‘how to care for your hands’ and ‘how to choose the right colour for you’, the website also has a fun ‘try it on’ section, where you can see how each colour looks on the nails. Finally, Andrea and the Cheeky team have invited everyday women to share their personal funny, sexy or risqué stories which are posted on the website under each polish colour name.
